Course platform fee calculator

Enter your course price and how many sales you make a month. The calculator compares what you keep with a platform that takes a commission on every sale and with a flat monthly plan, and tells you how many sales it takes for the flat plan to pay off.

Free, no sign-up. The math runs in your browser: we don't store what you type.

Your sale

What your student pays for each sale.

How many sales you make in a normal month.

Currency

It only changes the label on the amounts. It doesn't convert between currencies.

How it's calculated

The formula, step by step

Everything comes from what you enter. For each sale and each month:

  1. 1.Processor per sale = price × processor percentage + fixed fee per sale.
  2. 2.Commission per sale = price × platform commission.
  3. 3.Scenario A, you keep per month = sales × (price - processor per sale - commission per sale).
  4. 4.Scenario B, you keep per month = sales × (price - processor per sale) - monthly plan cost.
  5. 5.Per year = what you keep per month × 12.
  6. 6.Break-even = monthly plan cost ÷ commission per sale, rounded up to the next whole sale.

Example: if you sell a course for 100 and make 20 sales a month, a 10% commission is 200 a month to the platform. A flat plan that costs less than that leaves you more, and the gap grows with every sale.

The calculator doesn't include taxes, refunds, currency exchange or what your bank charges to receive the money. Use it to compare both models with the same numbers, not as your bookkeeping.

FAQ

Questions about fees

It depends on how much you sell. With few sales, a commission is usually cheaper because you only pay when you sell. As you sell more, a flat plan usually leaves you more, because its cost doesn't grow with each sale. The calculator tells you the number of sales where it flips.

Because it's charged by whoever processes the card, not by the course platform. You pay it either way, so it doesn't change which one fits you. We include it so the result looks like what actually reaches you.

It's a generic estimate of what card processors charge per payment. The real rate depends on the country, the type of card and your processor. Check it and change it in the calculator.
